Shafi Parambil’s Campaign Takes Flight to UAE: Kerala Congress Candidate Seeks Overseas Support
Shafi Parambil, the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) candidate contesting from the Vatakara Lok Sabha constituency, has embarked on a strategic journey to the Middle East, aiming to mobilize support from voters residing in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Parambil’s recent travel took him to key locations such as Sharjah and Qatar, where he engaged with non-resident Indian (NRI) voters, particularly those originating from the Vatakara constituency and currently settled in the Middle Eastern countries. The Vatakara Lok Sabha constituency, known for its significant political influence, encompasses seven assembly constituencies spread across the Kozhikode and Kannur districts of Kerala.
During his visit, Parambil took center stage at the Indian Association Hall in Sharjah, where he addressed a gathering of enthusiastic NRIs, passionately discussing his vision for the constituency and the broader national landscape. Additionally, he interacted with NRI voters at the Podar Pearl International School auditorium in Al Mashaf district, Qatar, engaging in discussions about their concerns and aspirations.
Receiving a warm reception from NRIs, including the sizable Malayali community residing in the UAE, Parambil conveyed two crucial requests to the electorate. Firstly, he urged those with flexible financial commitments to prioritize returning to Vatakara to exercise their voting rights, underscoring the pivotal role citizens play in shaping India’s future as a secular and democratic nation. Secondly, Parambil encouraged families planning visits to their relatives abroad to consider postponing their trips until after April 26, thereby ensuring their active participation in Kerala’s polling day.
Historically, Kerala has witnessed a substantial turnout of NRI voters returning home to partake in both Lok Sabha and Assembly elections, reflecting their enduring commitment to the democratic process and their homeland’s welfare.
The 2024 Lok Sabha elections, scheduled for April 26, are poised to be a closely contested affair across Kerala’s 20 parliamentary constituencies. Parambil faces formidable competition from prominent contenders such as KK Shailaja of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M)) and Praphul Krishnan of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Notably, this electoral showdown marks a significant milestone in Kerala’s political history, with two sitting MLAs, namely KK Shailaja from Mattanur and Shafi Parambil from Palakkad, vying against each other for a coveted Lok Sabha seat, accentuating the intensity of the electoral landscape.
