India Global Forum 2024: Forging Stronger India-UAE-Africa Ties in Dubai
The India Global Forum’s (IGF) flagship event for the Middle East and Africa 2024 (ME&A 2024) commenced today in Dubai, bringing together influential leaders from India, the Middle East, and Africa. Held under the theme ‘Limitless Horizons,’ this two-day forum focuses on strengthening strategic partnerships across key sectors such as technology, finance, sustainability, and innovation. Featuring more than 200 distinguished speakers and over 1,000 participants, the event underscores the growing synergy between these regions.
A Focus on Deepening India-UAE Relations
India’s Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal highlighted the long-lasting strength of the India-UAE friendship in his recorded address to the event. He emphasized how the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) has increased bilateral commerce to almost $85 billion annually.
“The friendship between Bharat and the UAE is recognized globally as a model of mutual trust and collaboration,” Goyal remarked. He further noted that CEPA has unlocked new opportunities for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and startups, playing a vital role in achieving Vision Bharat 2047 and the UAE’s Centennial 2071 Vision.
Indian Ambassador to the UAE, Sunjay Sudhir, celebrated the rapid transformation of bilateral ties, referring to the relationship as a corridor of “trade, technology, talent, and trust.” Reflecting on the efficiency of the CEPA negotiations, which were concluded in just 88 days, Sudhir highlighted it as a testament to the exceptional trust and collaboration between the two nations.
A Broader Mission for Global Unity
IGF’s founder and chairman, Manoj Ladwa, emphasized the forum’s main objective of providing a venue for fruitful cooperation. He underlined that India-UAE ties are based on an alignment of shared values and goals and go beyond economic agreements. “Conversation and cooperation, not conflict, are the keys to our future,” Ladwa said. He urged everyone to work together to address urgent global issues like inequality, poverty, climate change, and the digital gap. “The India Global Forum offers a chance to capitalize on this momentum and provide real advantages for our countries and the wider region.”
Strategic Developments and Growing Trade Relations
This year’s IGF ME&A 2024 aligns with several milestone achievements in India-UAE relations, including a newly signed Bilateral Investment Treaty and a Memorandum of Understanding on civil nuclear cooperation. With the UAE standing as India’s third-largest trading partner, bilateral trade reached $83.65 billion in 2023-24, highlighting the significant economic interdependence between the two nations.
The forum also sheds light on the potential of this partnership to address critical global issues such as climate change, digital transformation, and sustainability. By fostering collaboration among policymakers, innovators, and industry leaders, IGF aims to strengthen regional cooperation while showcasing contemporary India’s rising influence on the global stage.
Showcasing India’s Transformation
The India Global Forum serves as a key platform to capture the dynamic evolution of India. It takes stock of the country’s rapid development in a unique opportunity for global stakeholders. By focusing on building partnerships and addressing global challenges, IGF ME&A 2024 reinforces the idea that India and Africa share a collective vision for a cleaner and more prosperous future.
Celebrating values and aspirations, this pre-eminent forum represents a key step in India’s transformation journey and a key role in the global arena of global engagement.
