The International Cricket Council (ICC) today announced the revised schedule for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup to be held in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from October 3 to 20. Dubai and Sharjah will host the ninth edition of the tournament, which will inspire and connect a new generation of fans around the world. The decision to shift the tournament from Bangladesh to UAE was taken by the ICC Board in its recent meeting on August 20.
Ten teams will play 23 matches over 18 action-packed days across two venues – the Dubai International Cricket Stadium and the Sharjah Cricket Stadium in the United Arab Emirates – for the ultimate prize of T20 cricket.
Group A includes India, New Zealand, Pakistan and Sri Lanka along with six-time champions Australia, while Group B includes Bangladesh, England, South Africa, West Indies and Scotland. Each team will compete in four group matches, scheduled across two venues. Both venues will have the added excitement of hosting three double-header match days each.
Bangladesh will face Scotland in the opening match of the tournament in Sharjah, while Pakistan will face Asia Cup winners Sri Lanka. 2023 runners-up South Africa will face the West Indies in the T20 World Cup opener on October 4 in Dubai.
Australia, the defending champions and the most successful team in T20 World Cup history, will begin their campaign against Sri Lanka in Sharjah on October 5, while the much-anticipated match between India and Pakistan will be held in Dubai on October 6.
The top two teams from each group will play the second placed team from the opposite group. Semi-final 1 will be held on October 17 in Dubai and Semi-final 2 on October 18 in Sharjah. If India advances to the semi-finals, it will be played in semi-final 1.
The ICC Women’s T20 World Cup will be held at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on October 20.
Scotland and Sri Lanka qualified for the tournament through the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier held in Abu Dhabi earlier this year.
10 practice matches will be played from September 28 to October 1 at the Sevens Stadium and the ICC Academy Grounds in Dubai.
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) will maintain its hosting rights in partnership with Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) to ensure successful delivery of the event.
