Dubai Launches First Phase Environmental Awareness Drive for Industries and Services
Campaign Targets Over 500 Industrial and Service Companies in Dubai

Dubai: In a significant move towards sustainable practices, Dubai Municipality has initiated the first phase of its environmental awareness campaign, focusing on industrial and service enterprises. The campaign aims to emphasize crucial environmental requirements and technical guidelines, fostering a commitment to minimize the negative impact on the ecosystem and safeguard various industries.
With a target audience of 500 enterprises and projects across Dubai, the campaign seeks to instill environmental consciousness among businesses and ensure strict adherence to the environmental laws and legislation set by Dubai.
Encouraging Compliance: Aisha Al Muhairi, Acting Director of the Department of Environmental Sustainability at Dubai Municipality, highlighted the campaign’s potential to encourage compliance among industrial and service enterprises. She emphasized the municipality’s dedication to developing a sustainable environmental system that prioritizes proactive environmental protection, aligning with the UAE’s environmental frameworks and the overarching goal of improving the quality of life while ensuring a sustainable environment that drives economic growth.
Supporting National Objectives: The campaign aligns with the National Air Quality Agenda 2031, aiming to mitigate pollution, improve air quality, and contribute to a safe and healthy environment. Al Muhairi outlined plans to distribute environmental awareness leaflets to businesses, providing guidelines to minimize adverse environmental effects and technical guidance for obtaining necessary permits.
Environmental Control and Inspection Efforts: Dubai Municipality, in its commitment to environmental control and sustainability, conducted over 7,000 inspections and surveillance tours in the current year. Targeting more than 5,000 enterprises and projects across critical sectors in the emirate, these efforts aim to ensure compliance with environmental standards and procedures while addressing establishments violating environmental legislation in Dubai.
Innovative Technologies for Sustainability: Dubai Municipality leverages innovative technologies for environmental and natural sustainability, exemplified by its mobile vehicle designed to monitor the air environment. In 2022, this mobile lab received ISO 17025 certification, making it the first certified mobile laboratory in the UAE for air environment monitoring.
The mobile vehicle stands out as the first reference station at the regional level, featuring global environmentally friendly design and resistance to varying climatic conditions. Equipped with nearly 20 advanced monitoring techniques, it tracks approximately 100 air contaminant components, compounds, toxic pollutants, volatile organic compounds, ozone catalysts, concentration rates of heavy metals, odorous gases, radioactive pollution levels, noise, and weather data.
This initiative has garnered widespread recognition, including the ‘Global Energy’ award in the National Sustainability Project category in 2020, the Arab Ideas Award in 2018, and a recognition certificate from the American Ideas Award in the same year. The mobile lab underscores Dubai Municipality’s commitment to pioneering sustainable practices and environmental monitoring.
