Dubai announces 2-Day Distance Learning for Private Schools Amid Unstable Weather
Government Announcement Aims to Ensure Safety, KHDA Confirms Application to All Educational Institutions

Dubai Institutes Two-Day Distance Learning for Private Schools Amid Unstable Weather
Dubai authorities have announced a two-day transition to online learning for all private schools in response to anticipated unstable weather conditions. The decision, aimed at ensuring the safety of both teachers and students, was made public by the government.
The Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) has clarified that this directive extends to private schools, nurseries, and universities operating within Dubai. Several private schools had proactively communicated with parents regarding the potential shift to distance learning and the preparedness of school administrations to manage the situation.
This action mirrors protocols implemented last month when government schools swiftly shifted to online learning on April 16 due to a historic storm that swept across the UAE. Private schools similarly adhered to distance learning protocols during this period. In some cases, such as in Sharjah, where residents experienced prolonged effects of heavy rainfall, the duration of online learning was extended until Monday, April 29, before students began returning to physical classrooms.
While the forthcoming weather conditions are not expected to replicate the severity of the rainfall experienced on April 16, experts from the National Center of Meteorology (NCM) have cautioned that moderate to heavy rainfall may occur in scattered areas. These conditions could be occasionally accompanied by lightning, thunder, and a possibility of hail.
To mitigate potential risks associated with the unstable weather, the National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority have affirmed their readiness and preparedness. Discussions during meetings have focused on identifying precautionary measures and ensuring the readiness of all relevant entities to address any eventualities that may arise during this period.
