China Extends Visa Free Travel to UAE and Qatar

China has expanded its visa free travel options, including its 72-hour and 144-hour transit policies, to visitors from 54 countries. The list includes the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Qatar, allowing citizens from these nations to travel or conduct business in permitted areas under the transit visa exemptions. The 144-hour policy is applicable in 20 major cities, including Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, and Chengdu, while the 72-hour policy is in effect in cities like Changsha, Harbin, and Guilin.

This move is part of China’s efforts to boost tourism and international engagement, encouraging travel agencies to facilitate visits by foreigners under these policies. The 54 approved countries cover regions in Europe, Asia, South America, and Oceania. Notably, the UAE and Qatar join the list, opening up more opportunities for citizens of these nations to explore China.

The expansion of visa free travel aligns with China’s broader strategy to attract more foreign visitors and promote tourism growth. By optimizing COVID-19 policies, China has seen a robust rebound in foreign visitor numbers, reaching 26.51 million by the end of October. The inclusion of the UAE and Qatar in this visa free initiative reflects China’s ongoing efforts to enhance global connectivity and facilitate international exchanges.

As China continues to ease visa rules and promote its transit policies, the country anticipates an increase in visitors exploring its diverse attractions. The move is seen as a positive step toward fostering cultural exchange and collaboration on a global scale. With the addition of Norway as the latest country in the list, China aims to position itself as an attractive destination for travelers from around the world.
