Atiqa Mir Secures Third Overall in DAMC Championship 2024 UAE with Multiple Podium Finishes

Rising Kashmiri Sensation Secures Third Overall Despite Challenges, Reflects on Racing Season

NEW DELHI: Atiqa Mir’s Remarkable Journey in DAMC Championship 2024 UAE

Atiqa Mir, the young sensation from Kashmir, India, continued her impressive streak of performances in the DAMC (Dubai Autodrome Championship) 2024 UAE edition. Despite missing the fourth round due to prior commitments with races in Italy, Atiqa showcased her exceptional talent and determination, securing the third position overall in the championship.

In the challenging conditions of Round 5 at the Dubai Kartdrome, Atiqa demonstrated her prowess by clinching victory in Race 2, while also securing commendable third-place finishes in both Race 1 and the final race.

Ahead of the races, Atiqa’s dominance was evident as she topped the Official Practice session with the fastest lap time of the weekend, setting the stage for a promising performance on race day.

The unique format of DAMC, with its random grid system and absence of a qualifying race, presented a test of skill and adaptability for Atiqa. Starting Race 1 from the 10th position and Race 2 from pole position, Atiqa displayed her remarkable racecraft by overtaking seven cars in Race 1 to secure third place. In Race 2, she maintained her stellar form, claiming a convincing victory.

However, the final race presented its challenges. Despite qualifying in second place, a penalty for track limits hampered Atiqa’s progress, ultimately resulting in a third-place finish.

Reflecting on her performance, Atiqa shared, “I was driving a Rotax after 3 months and had to adjust my driving a lot. I set the pace in practice and was happy with my speed and felt confident about winning the event. After winning a heat and finishing 3rd in the other, starting on the front row in the finals, the win was there for the taking but I lost pace at a crucial time and had to settle for 3rd after getting a penalty for track limits. This was the last race of the UAE season, and now we are off to drive in India and Europe for the summer. I would like to thank my supporters and my Team for all their support”.

Atiqa’s achievements in the 2023-24 season are testament to her remarkable talent and dedication. Alongside her success in DAMC, she also secured the position of Vice Champion in the IAME National Championship, further solidifying her status as a rising star in motorsport.

Starting her journey at the age of five, inspired by her father Asif Nazir Mir, India’s first National Karting Champion, Atiqa has quickly risen through the ranks to become the highest-ranked female driver globally under 10.

Competing in categories such as Micro Max and Mini x30, Atiqa has consistently delivered impressive performances in the UAE National IAME and ROTAX Championships, securing podium finishes and runner-up positions in prestigious events like the DAMC and Middle East Cup 2023. Representing the George Gibbons Motorsports (GGM) team, Atiqa continues to inspire and pave the way for young talent in motorsport.
