Abu Dhabi Upgrades Beach Wheelchair Access for Enhanced Citywide Use”

DMT Launches Enhanced System for Improved Beach Accessibility in Abu Dhabi for Wheelchair Users

Abu Dhabi is taking significant strides toward enhancing beach accessibility and public amenities, following the recent exciting announcement of free Wi-Fi availability at several of its beaches.

The Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) is introducing an innovative solution by installing remote-controlled ramps at various beachfronts across the capital. These ramps are designed to facilitate easier access for wheelchair users, ensuring they can enjoy the sun-drenched beaches and the captivating Indian Ocean just like any other beach enthusiast.

This forward-thinking initiative not only champions inclusivity but also embraces sustainability by harnessing solar-powered technology. Leveraging the region’s abundant sunshine, the solar-powered ramps represent a significant step toward a greener future for the city.

The cutting-edge Seatrac system offers wheelchair users the opportunity to immerse themselves in the water effortlessly. Users can smoothly lower themselves into the ocean for a relaxing experience and effortlessly elevate themselves back into their chairs, streamlining the entire process.

This innovative rollout is planned for prominent beach locations in Abu Dhabi, including Corniche Public Beach, Corniche Family Beach, Corniche Sahil Beach, Al Bateen Public Beach, and Al Bateen Ladies’ Beach. By introducing these accessibility enhancements, Abu Dhabi is aligning itself with the UAE government’s overarching objective of fostering a more inclusive society, catering to individuals with diverse needs and abilities.
