Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and President of Brazil Discuss Strengthening Bilateral Relations
His Highness Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, met with His Excellency Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, President of Brazil, for official talks aimed at strengthening the growing relationship between the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Brazil. The discussions centered on enhancing the longstanding ties between the two nations, with a particular focus on advancing cooperation in various key areas including economy, investment, renewable energy, sustainability, and diplomatic relations.
The presidents discussed the 50th anniversary of the UAE and Brazil’s diplomatic ties, which have grown significantly over the years, during their meeting. They recognized one other’s shared commitment to strengthening this strong base and extending collaboration in order to benefit both nations.
The Brazilian President and the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi also discussed potential collaborations to further sustainable development in both countries. They talked on ways to deepen and broaden their cooperation in order to tackle common global issues and guarantee their respective peoples’ continuous prosperity.
On behalf of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Khaled opened the meeting by wishing the Brazilian people more success and prosperity. President Lula reciprocated by welcoming the UAE leadership and expressing his hope for the nation’s ongoing growth.
Both leaders emphasized the value of cooperation on a regional and international scale as they discussed their ideas for strengthening the strategic alliance between the UAE and Brazil. Important regional and global concerns were discussed, highlighting the value of their collaboration in advancing stability and development on a worldwide scale.
The signing of two significant memoranda of understanding (MOUs) was one of the meeting’s main results. An MOU between Brazil’s Presidency Chief of Staff Rui Costa and UAE Minister of Investment Mohamed Hassan Alsuwaidi would create a cooperative structure to increase UAE investments in Brazil’s vital sectors. In order to strengthen their commitment to common international objectives, Brazil’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Mauro Vieira and UAE Minister of State for International Cooperation Reem Al Hashimy signed another MOU that focuses on cooperation between the two nations in Africa.
Further discussions included an agreement between Abu Dhabi Customs and Brazil’s Tax Authority to strengthen customs cooperation. They also celebrated the launch of a digital trade corridor to streamline trade procedures and foster greater collaboration between the UAE and Brazil.
The UAE’s plan to plant 10,000 palm trees in the Brazilian state of Bahia was also discussed at the meeting. This project shows the UAE’s dedication to promoting sustainable practices and generating favorable environmental effects in Brazil by transferring agricultural knowledge and skills through the Al Foah Company.
President Lula also conveyed his appreciation to the UAE for backing Brazil’s global cooperation efforts. Brazil is especially focused on initiatives to safeguard tropical rainforests and the Global Alliance against Hunger and Poverty.
The UAE’s connection with Brazil and the wider world community will be further cemented in 2024 when Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan leads the UAE delegation to the G20 meeting in Rio de Janeiro. President Lula’s invitation to the Crown Prince is a reflection of the two countries’ expanding relationship, as both leaders are eager to strengthen their cooperation in global fora.
