IIT-Abu Dhabi to Launch Chemical Engineering BTech Program in 2025
New Delhi, Jan 14: New Delhi, January 14: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Abu Dhabi will launch a BTech programme in chemical engineering from the academic year 2025-26, which will be the third undergraduate course offered on the campus, officials said.
Since its launch in January 2024, IIT Delhi – Abu Dhabi has launched an M.Tech program in Energy Transformation and Sustainability, two B.Tech programs in Computer Science and Engineering and Energy Engineering, and a PhD program in Energy and Sustainability.
“IIT Delhi-Abu Dhabi will offer three Bachelor of Technology (B. Tech) programs in Computer Science and Engineering, Energy Science and Engineering, and Chemical Engineering in the forthcoming academic year (2025–26), which begins in August 2025. These four-year programmes cater to the evolving needs of the global technology landscape and equip students with the skills and knowledge to excel as future leaders in their chosen fields,” a senior official told PTI.
The two main modes for admission to these courses will be the Combined Admission Entrance Test (CAET) 2025 and JEE-Advanced 2025. Two sessions will be held for CAET 2025, a crucial part of the admissions process: Session 1 on February 16 and Session 2 on April 13, 2025.
“This dual session format provides candidates with two opportunities to showcase their skills, with the higher score from the two sessions being considered for the final selection process,” the official stated.
The official clarified that CAET 2025 is a three-hour, pen-and-paper exam that is administered in English and has 60 questions that are split evenly between physics, chemistry, and mathematics.
“In the UAE, Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and Sharjah, as well as in India, New Delhi, the CAET 2025 testing locations will be situated. There might be more places available for the second session in other cities and nations, he said, depending on the number of applications submitted.
The admission process aims to foster diversity and excellence, with one-third of the total seats to be allocated through JEE (Advanced) 2025 and two-thirds of the seats to be allocated through CAET 2025.
“CAET 2025 seats are open to UAE nationals and international students (including Indian expatriates who have completed high school and five years of education in the UAE),” he said.
Candidates can choose to apply for one or both sessions; those who attend both will be given preference based on their higher scores. Those who perform better in CAET Session 1 will be given “early admission” to a portion of the seats.
“The final seat allocation will be made on the basis of the combined merit list and the candidates’ preference in their fields after the Session 2 examination,” he added.
India and the UAE signed an agreement to set up a campus of IIT-Delhi in Abu Dhabi during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the Emirati capital in 2023. PTI
