3,000 Dirham fine for Abandoned Cars Parked in Public, Municipal Officials Confiscate Vehicles

Authorities have cracked down on cars parked in Al Tafra area of Abu Dhabi, abandoned cars by their owners. It is noteworthy that this region located west of Abu Dhabi was earlier known as the Western Region.
For the past few days, the municipality officials have been carrying out an awareness campaign in this area. The municipal authorities have announced that they will dispose of abandoned cars that have been parked unattended in public spaces and parking lots for days.
Moreover, during the inspections, the officials have explained to the public about the regulations to be followed to prevent health disorders. Wam, the UAE’s state-run news agency, has published photographs showing authorities affixing warning stickers to abandoned dusty cars that have been parked in yards for long periods of time without proper maintenance in the first place.
Some of them are said to have parked their vehicles unattended in the parking lot and others in front of their houses. In the UAE, abandoning cars in public is punishable by a Dh3,000 fine and confiscation of the vehicle.
Apart from raising awareness, the campaign in Al Dhafra aims to protect public health, keep places clean and tidy and ensure sustainable waste management in the country, according to municipality officials.
Therefore, the authorities advised residents to always maintain the cleanliness of their vehicles and avoid leaving them in public for long periods of time.
