UAE’s EDGNEX to invest $1 billion in data centers in Thailand
Thailand’s Proen Corporation and Dubai-based EDGNEX Data Centers have teamed together to spend 32 billion baht, or roughly $1 billion, in a number of data center projects. EDGNEX, a division of the UAE real estate developer Damac Group, would own 70% of the joint venture and run its operations, with Proen Corp holding the other 30%.
Damac Group founder Hussain Sajwani emphasized the company’s strong ties to Thailand, including plans for a future data center capacity pipeline of about 100 megawatts (MW).
This year, the joint venture will launch a data center project with 20 MW of capacity. By early 2025, the first phase, which has a 5 MW capacity, should be operational. The facility will obtain Tier III uptime certification for high reliability and be a carrier-neutral hub that permits flexibility among various telecom operators.
This investment demonstrates EDGNEX’s strategic commitment on enhancing Southeast Asia’s digital infrastructure, satisfying the region’s expanding demand for data services, and fostering economic growth in the region.
