UAE will not support Post-War Gaza Plans Without Palestinian State
United Arab Emirates says it will not support Israel’s ‘later’ plan in Gaza without the establishment of a Palestinian state.
UAE Foreign Minister Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan posted on Saturday at 10:00 AM that the UAE is not ready to support the day after the war in Gaza without the establishment of a Palestinian state.
In May, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu published a post-war plan for Gaza online, saying the Palestinians would “enjoy extraordinary prosperity” if implemented.
The plan includes investments in ports, solar power, electric car production and the newly discovered Gaza gas fields. The plan consisted of three phases from an unspecified “success date” to 2035.
The roadmap says Palestinians in Gaza under Israeli occupation will carry out the project under the auspices of a coalition of Arab states including the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Bahrain, Jordan and Morocco.
In response, Abdullah said Netanyahu did not have the proper authority to implement this measure or take similar measures, clarifying that the UAE had not been consulted on the Gaza plans.
In addition, the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement that the UAE refuses to participate in any plan aimed at ensuring Israel’s presence in the Gaza Strip.
“The UAE stands ready to provide all possible support to a Palestinian government of integrity, competence and independence that fulfills the hopes and aspirations of the fraternal Palestinian people,” it added.
‘Temporary International Assignment’
In late July, the UAE stressed the need for an “interim international mission” to address the enormous humanitarian fallout of the war in Gaza after the fighting ends.
“Consolidating peace and security and ending humanitarian suffering must begin with the establishment of a temporary international mission in Gaza at the formal invitation of the Palestinian government,” Reem Al Hashimi, the UAE’s minister of state for international cooperation, told the official news agency. .
He said the mission would put Gaza on a path to reunification with the occupied West Bank under the rule of the Palestinian Authority.
At least 41,182 Palestinians have been killed and 95,280 injured in Israel’s war on Gaza as the devastating offensive approaches its one-year anniversary. The fighting followed an October 7 attack by Hamas in southern Israel that killed 1,139 people.
