Worshippers surge to Prophet’s Mosque in Medina during Saudi school break
Holy site maximizes sterilization, cleaning, and crowd management measures

Saudi authorities overseeing the Prophet’s Mosque in Medina, Islam’s second holiest site, are actively mobilizing resources to welcome worshippers from across the kingdom during the current school holiday, a period typically associated with increased pilgrimage.
The General Authority for the Care of the Two Holy Mosques has announced heightened services, placing a strong focus on disinfection, cleaning, and crowd management. These efforts are complemented by dedicated assistance for physically challenged and elderly visitors, ensuring a smooth and accommodating experience for all worshippers.
For elderly visitors to Al Rawda Al Sharifa, the sacred area housing the tomb of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), dedicated prayer spaces and accessible walkways have been arranged. The floors are scented, and rugs are sterilized using environmental substances, contributing to a safe and healthy environment within the mosque.
In addition to these measures, the state agency has strategically placed containers filled with the blessed Zamzam water throughout the mosque, ensuring easy access for worshippers seeking this revered water.
Following Umrah, the minor pilgrimage performed at the Grand Mosque in Mecca, many pilgrims traditionally proceed to Medina to offer prayers at the Prophet’s Mosque and explore other Islamic landmarks in the city.
During the past week alone, authorities reported that the Prophet’s Mosque welcomed approximately 5.5 million worshippers, showcasing the significance and popularity of the site among the faithful. The comprehensive efforts undertaken by Saudi authorities exemplify their commitment to ensuring a spiritually enriching and well-facilitated experience for pilgrims during this school holiday pilgrimage season.
