Al-Shibani emphasized that Syria’s new government would pursue foreign policies that differed greatly from those of the previous administration in a series of posts on the social networking site X.
He made the remarks after talks in Doha with Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani and Qatari Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulaziz bin Saleh Al Khulaifi. .”
Al-Shibani explained that key strategic issues were discussed and a roadmap for rebuilding Syria and empowering citizens was presented during the talks. “We want to form a Syrian government that represents all segments of society,” he said.
He praised Qatar’s “key role” in supporting Syrians during the recent unrest and the current phase of Syria’s reconstruction, describing the Gulf state as a “strategic partner.”
Setting aside what he called the “attitude of the old regime,” Al-Shibani highlighted Damascus’s desire to “repair relations with the Arab and international community,” and stressed that Syria aims for “peaceful and cooperative relations that foster the principles of justice, freedom, and equality” for every citizen.
The minister urged the United States to lift economic sanctions on the Syrian people, saying this would primarily slow down the pace of building a “new Syria.”
