UAE Secures Arab Parliament Presidency, Highlighting Diplomatic Influence
Abu Dhabi [UAE], October 27: The United Arab Emirates has secured the Presidency of the Arab Parliament for the fourth legislative term, with Mohammed Ahmad Al Yamahi, a member of the UAE’s Federal National Council (FNC), elected as President.This election took place at the headquarters of the Arab League in Cairo, Egypt, during the procedural session held on Saturday.
This achievement underscores the UAE’s influence within the Arab Parliament, where it had previously held the presidency for two consecutive terms from 2012 to 2016. During this period, the UAE contributed significantly to Arab parliamentary diplomacy, showcasing its commitment to advancing collaborative goals and addressing regional issues.
President Al Yamahi said in a statement that he was deeply grateful to the UAE’s leaders for their unwavering support and direction, including President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President and Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and Vice President and Deputy Prime Minister Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan. In order to influence decision-making and advance peace and cooperation throughout the Arab world, he recognized that the UAE’s leadership has continuously given Emirati officials the authority to seek important positions within Arab, regional, and international organizations. He pointed out that this most recent achievement strengthens the UAE’s track record of diplomatic involvement under its inspiring leadership.
Beyond the presidency, the UAE has held influential positions within the Arab Parliament. In 2020, the FNC’s Parliamentary Division was elected as Deputy President of the Arab Parliament, reflecting trust in the UAE’s leadership in legislative matters. Furthermore, UAE representatives have chaired key committees, including the Financial and Economic Affairs Committee and the Social, Educational, Cultural, Women, and Youth Affairs Committee. These roles have enabled the UAE to address critical issues affecting economic development, education, women’s rights, and cultural preservation across the Arab region, reinforcing its commitment to collaborative regional progress.
