SCCI Explores Opportunities for Increased Trade Exchange Volume and Joint Investments with Thailand

SCCI and Thai Delegation Discuss Strategies to Boost Economic Collaboration

Abu Dhabi [UAE], March 25: The Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) recently engaged in substantive discussions with a diplomatic delegation from Thailand, aimed at exploring avenues to bolster economic cooperation and augment trade exchange volume between the two nations.

The meeting, convened at the SCCI’s headquarters, was held in conjunction with a visit from a prominent Thai business delegation led by Sorayut Chasombat, the esteemed Ambassador of the Kingdom of Thailand to the UAE. Attending the meeting were distinguished figures including Abdullah Sultan Al Owais, Chairman of SCCI, and Mohammed Ahmed Amin Al Awadi, Director-General of SCCI.

Also present were Abdul Aziz Al Shamsi, Assistant Director-General for Communication and Business Sector at SCCI, and Mai Bin Haddah Al Suwaidi, Head of Partnerships and International Cooperation at the Sharjah Chamber.

Discussions during the gathering delved into various aspects, focusing on reinforcing partnerships, bolstering trade ties, and fortifying cooperation and coordination between the Sharjah Chamber and the Thai Embassy in the UAE.

Key topics of deliberation included the exploration of avenues for enhancing communication channels to facilitate joint events, reciprocal visits of business leaders, missions, and trade delegations from both sides. The objective was to acquaint the business communities in both Sharjah and Thailand with the advantageous investment opportunities available in the two countries.

Furthermore, the meeting explored potential avenues of cooperation and stressed the imperative of participation in trade exhibitions and events in both countries. Notable events discussed included the Watch and Jewellery Middle East Show hosted by Expo Centre Sharjah, and the renowned Bangkok Gems and Jewellery Fair.

During the meeting, the Thai delegation expressed their keenness to facilitate the participation of Emirati jewellery designers in the Bangkok Fair. Additionally, they extended an official invitation to the Sharjah Chamber to visit Thailand in September of the coming year.

Abdullah Sultan Al Owais reiterated the Sharjah Chamber’s unwavering commitment to actively contribute to bolstering economic cooperation between the two countries. He emphasized the significance of private sector engagement in boosting investments and stressed the importance of exploring prospects of cooperation through joint forums and meetings.

Al Owais underscored the need to incentivize Thai businesses to visit Sharjah, encouraging them to explore its exemplary business ecosystem and leverage its investment advantages and promising opportunities.

Thailand has emerged as a key trade and investment ally for the UAE, with non-oil bilateral trade sustaining significant growth momentum. Thailand is now the UAE’s second-largest trading partner in the ASEAN Bloc, accounting for 20 per cent of its total non-oil foreign trade within the region, while the UAE is Thailand’s leading trading partner in the Middle East.

Concluding their visit, the Thai delegation toured the SCCI’s permanent exhibition, where they were captivated by the local industrial products showcased.
