Dubai RTA Completes 141 Modern Bus Shelters, Targets 762 by 2025

Dubai, UAE, November 24: The installation of 141 new bus shelters throughout the city marks a major milestone for Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in its ambitious effort to upgrade public transportation infrastructure. As part of a larger strategy, the project intends to improve the travel experience for both locals and tourists by installing 762 contemporary bus shelters by the end of 2025.

A Vision for Modern Mobility
The innovative designs and practical features of the new bus stations will make passengers as comfortable as possible. Currently, the shelters, which are positioned at strategic locations across Dubai, serve multiple bus routes; some of them serve more than ten routes each. Once fully completed, the stations are expected to serve more than 182 million riders annually, providing access and convenience to Dubai’s growing population.

Upgrading infrastructure to meet growing needs
Matter Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Directors of RTA, highlighted the company’s commitment to improving public transport infrastructure to meet Dubai’s rapidly expanding metropolitan area and increasing mobility needs.

“This project underscores RTA’s commitment to advancing infrastructure that supports urban expansion, enhances quality of life, and delivers safe, world-class public transport services,” Al Tayer stated.

Key Features of the Project
Customized Locations:

In order to meet present and future demands for public transportation, the shelters have been positioned in crowded areas and strategic locations.
For quicker implementation, areas with pre-existing infrastructure were given priority.
Advanced Infrastructure:

In addition to advertising spaces and interactive information panels showing bus network maps, schedules, and headway times, the shelters have sheltered outside areas.
Air-conditioned areas improve the commuter experience by providing year-round comfort.
Creating inclusive designs:

The bus shelters are made to house those with a strong will, in keeping with Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s “My Community… A City for Everyone” program in Dubai.
Wheelchair-accessible areas are among the features that provide assistance and inclusivity for all commuters.

Classification for Usage Efficiency:

Primary shelters: For locations with over 750 daily users.
Secondary shelters: Serving 250–750 daily users.
Basic shelters: Designed for 100–250 daily users.
Drop-off/pick-up shelters: For locations with fewer than 100 daily users.
Commitment to Excellence in Public Transport
The RTA has committed to completing the project by the end of 2025, with 40% of the initiative already accomplished. This is a big step toward making Dubai’s public transportation system a world standard for effectiveness, security, and user pleasure.

The RTA is committed to establishing Dubai as a model city for mobility innovation, with a particular emphasis on tackling urban expansion and population increase. This project not only satisfies present needs but also lays the groundwork for a sustainable future in public transportation by utilizing user-centric designs and contemporary infrastructure.
