UAE and Syria Strengthen Ties in High-Level Phone Call

Abu Dhabi, May 12 (UNI) — In a significant step toward deepening regional cooperation, UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan held a phone conversation on Sunday with Syrian leader Ahmed Al-Sharaa to discuss bilateral relations and evolving regional dynamics, according to the UAE’s state news agency WAM.

The two leaders discussed ways that the UAE and Syria could work together more, concentrating on shared interests that could improve regional peace and prosperity. The UAE would continue to help Syria’s peace, development, and long-term security, Sheikh Mohamed reaffirmed.

Echoing this sentiment, Syrian state news agency SANA reported that Al-Sharaa emphasized the importance of sustained coordination with the UAE. He expressed appreciation for Abu Dhabi’s consistent backing of Syria’s sovereignty and its constructive role in promoting regional peace during turbulent times.

This phone conversation continues the growing diplomatic momentum following Al-Sharaa’s first official visit to the United Arab Emirates on April 13. During the journey, he met Sheikh Mohamed and laid the groundwork for future collaboration. Shortly after the meeting, the UAE restarted direct flights to Syria, which is seen as a sign of improving ties after earlier suspensions brought on by unrest following the fall of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

Reopened talks between the United Arab Emirates and Syria represent a major step forward in regional diplomacy to restore confidence and promote peace across the Middle East.
