UAE Achieves Major Milestone Toward Net Zero with Barakah Nuclear Plant Unit 4

President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan says the UAE has taken a significant step towards net zero when unit 4 of the Barakah nuclear plant begins operations.

Posting on X, the UAE President wrote: “With the commissioning of Unit 4 of the Barakah Nuclear Plant, the UAE has taken another significant step in its journey towards net zero. We will continue to prioritize energy security and sustainability. Today and tomorrow benefit our nation and our people.”

Unit 4, the fourth and final unit of the Baraka nuclear power plant, has added 1,400 MW of additional clean electricity capacity to power the national grid.

About 4.8 million automobiles would not need to be driven if the facility were to avert 22 million tons of carbon emissions per year.

Regulator of Dubai and Vice President of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, said on X: “Today, thank God, the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant has completed the full commercial operation of its stations in a very positive way. One-fourth of the nation’s electrical demands will be met by the Barakah Nuclear Power Station.

The biggest supplier of clean energy in the area is the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant. 75% of the clean power generated by Barakah plants has made the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant the global leader in proportion of clean electricity per population during the last five years.

“The Baraka nuclear power plant will reduce carbon emissions by 22 million tonnes annually, equivalent to taking 4.8 million cars off the roads.

“The Barakah Nuclear Plant: A Vision, a Decision and a Plan by Mohammed bin Zayed, may God protect him… An Emirati achievement, an Arab pride and a global addition to protecting the planet.”
