UAE National Day celebrations rebranded as Eid Al Etihad

Celebrating unity with sustainability and a four-day holiday weekend

UAE National Day Renamed “Eid Al Etihad”

The official name for the UAE National Day celebrations is ‘Eid Al Etihad’, its organizing committee announced on Tuesday.

The name emphasizes the theme of ‘Union’ (Etihad) and celebrates the unification of the Emirates on December 2, 1971. The theme “represents the country’s identity, heritage, unity, strength and national pride”.

Every year on December 2, the UAE holds a grand event, which is usually attended by the rulers of the Emirates. The venue for this year’s event has yet to be announced. However, the group said there will be more activities in ‘Eid Al Etihad Zones’ across the seven emirates.

The National Day holiday of the year is the last long weekend of 2024. December 2nd and 3rd fall on Monday and Tuesday respectively. Combined with the Saturday-Sunday weekend, it’s a four-day holiday.

Eisa Alsubousi, Director of Strategic and Creative Affairs at the Organizing Committee of the 53rd Eid Al Etihad Celebration said: “We are delighted to invite everyone to join in the joy of this historic moment celebrating the unification of the seven emirates.

To support these celebrations, we have developed comprehensive guides to encourage and assist in preparations for a sustainable celebration. We encourage government agencies, private organizations, schools and families to download these resources and join this remarkable celebration.

The 53rd Eid Al Etihad will highlight the importance of sustainability and cooperation. Residents are encouraged to actively participate by reducing waste, recycling or recycling what is already there, and reusing resources.

“For example, existing decorations can be recreated to celebrate Eid Al Etihad. The 53rd Eid Al Etihad activities will be accompanied by guides on how to participate sustainably, whether you are at home, school or work. There is always a way to contribute emotionally and make a positive impact,” the organisers said.
