UAE launches maternity centers in Afghanistan to boost healthcare

Emirates boosts maternal and child healthcare, aiding 115,000+ women with modern clinics and better medical access

UAE Expands Maternity and Pediatric Healthcare Across Afghanistan

The UAE has established 10 maternity and pediatric hospitals in strategic regions as part of a large-scale effort to improve maternal and child healthcare in Afghanistan. President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan of the United Arab Emirates supports this project, which is in line with the nation’s long-standing humanitarian initiatives to enhance healthcare, stability, and economic development.

Strategic Healthcare Expansion
More than 115,000 women will directly benefit from the new facilities, which are positioned strategically in regions like Nangarhar, Balkh, Herat, and Kandahar. Every clinic has state-of-the-art medical equipment, such as ambulances, mobile clinics, solar electricity, and specialty beds, which enhances access to healthcare, particularly in rural areas.

Impact on Rural Communities
Healthcare accessibility is already being transformed by the project in the Baghbani district of Jalalabad. In the past, it was difficult for many families to get safe delivery assistance and trustworthy vaccines. In order to assist combat Afghanistan’s high infant mortality rate of 43 fatalities per 1,000 live births, babies like baby Ayesha Qamari are now receiving necessary immunizations.

The importance of these initiatives was underlined by Marwa Akbari, a clinic immunization officer: “We are providing crucial vaccinations for both pregnant women and children, ensuring better health outcomes.”

Improvements in childbirth safety were emphasized by the clinic’s chief physician, Dr. Ikramullah: “With professional medical teams, we’re reducing unsafe home births and supporting maternal health with nutrition and treatment programs.”

UAE’s Continued Humanitarian Efforts
Guided by Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the UAE remains committed to Afghanistan’s development. As demonstrated by Shazia Mohammadi, who named her newborn daughter Fatima in honor of Emirati leader Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, the project is already having an impact.

“We didn’t have access to contemporary medical treatment prior to this clinic. We now have access to healthcare when we need it,” Shazia said.

Advantages for Society and the Economy
By generating 92 jobs, the program has bolstered local economies in addition to enhancing healthcare. Mawlawi Ameenullah Sharif, the Health Director of Nangarhar Province, acknowledged the UAE’s assistance, saying, “This clinic was desperately needed, providing medical care, vaccinations, and nutrition support for mothers and children.”

More Afghan families will have access to necessary treatments as the UAE keeps growing its healthcare initiatives, paving the way for a more stable and healthy future.
