UAE: Al Ain Date Festival Showcases Emirati Heritage and Agriculture

Al Ain [UAE], January 4: The inaugural edition of the Al Ain Date Festival has officially commenced under the esteemed patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister, and Chairman of the Presidential Court. The celebration of the UAE’s rich agricultural traditions and legacy will take place in Al Ain until January 8.

An Exhibition of Emirati Agriculture and Tradition

The Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority arranged the celebration, which highlights the date palm’s historical significance as a beloved emblem of Emirati culture. By highlighting Al Ain’s historical significance, cultural diversity, and agricultural and economic potential, it seeks to increase knowledge of the UAE’s rich past.

Highlights of the Opening Day
On its inaugural day, the festival saw an impressive participation in the “Elite Al Ain” competition, with 27 contestants submitting a total of 2,025 kilograms of dates. Additionally, 600 crates totaling 2,000 kg were put up for sale, garnering a lot of interest from both traders and date enthusiasts.

Dignitaries Attend the Event

Prominent dignitaries, including Dr. Mugheer Khamis Al Khaili and Faris Khalaf Al Mazrouei, Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority, as well as Abdullah Mubarak Al Muhairi, Director General of the Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority, attended the festival’s opening ceremony. The event’s significance on a local and national level was demonstrated by the participation of notable individuals and executive directors from a range of government departments.

Exciting Competitions and Prizes
A major attraction of the festival is its seven date competitions, each celebrating a distinct variety of dates: Al Ain Elite, Khalas, Fard, Dabbas, Bumaan, Sheeshi, and Zamli. The event will be made more exciting and prestigious by the fact that competitors will compete for an amazing 70 prizes, totaling AED 1.756 million.

Beyond the Contests

With a traditional date auction, kiosks selling premium dates, and a bustling souq providing an insight into Emirati customs, visitors can fully immerse themselves in the festival’s lively atmosphere. In addition to honoring the date palm’s cultural value, these attractions give local farmers and dealers a stage on which to display their produce.
