UAE and Indonesia Expand Cooperation in Clean Energy and Water Sustainability

Strengthening Ties for a Sustainable Future

The Republic of Indonesia is strengthening its partnership with the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) in the areas of sustainable water and clean energy. DEWA’s MD and CEO, HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, and Indonesia’s ambassador to the United Arab Emirates, HE Husin Bagis, recently met to discuss ways to promote sustainable development through knowledge sharing and new public-private collaborations.

DEWA’s Commitment to Renewable Energy and Water Security

Al Tayer emphasized DEWA’s noteworthy accomplishments in decarbonization, greenhouse gas reduction, and contributions to global net-zero goals during the talks.
He underlined how crucial it is to improve ties between the UAE and Indonesia, especially in the areas of commerce, investment, and economic collaboration, with a particular emphasis on water management and renewable energy.

Advancing Clean Energy Through Innovation

A key point of discussion was DEWA’s successful implementation of the Independent Power and Water Producer (IPWP) model, which has attracted global investments and led to record-low tariffs for solar energy projects.Al Tayer reaffirmed Dubai’s commitment to sustainability through initiatives such as the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050.
The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, the world’s largest single-site solar power plant, is a pillar of these initiatives.

Public-private partnerships in green technologies

DEWA is promoting collaborations in areas including smart grids, green hydrogen and circular economy projects, cementing Dubai’s position as a global leader in sustainable innovation and investment.
These initiatives support the UAE’s ambition for a green economy and are in line with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Indonesia’s Interest in Sustainable Water Management

Ambassador Bagis acknowledged DEWA’s innovative efforts and conveyed Indonesia’s strong desire to take use of DEWA’s knowledge of sustainable water management and water desalination.
He highlighted that cooperation with DEWA can offer creative ways to increase access to safe and reasonably priced water, since water scarcity continues to be a significant problem in Indonesia’s isolated and desert regions.

A strategic alliance for sustainability over the long run

With both nations dedicated to creating long-term plans for clean energy and water security, the summit represents a step toward deeper UAE-Indonesia collaboration in sustainability. Both nations are striving for a more resilient and environmentally friendly future by exchanging knowledge and encouraging investment in sustainable technologies.
