UAE Announces Road Closures on Sunday – Reasons Unveiled
UAE Reveals Road Closures for Dubai Marathon: Impact on Umm Suqeim and Jumeirah Roads

On a recent Sunday, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) publicly disclosed the reasons behind the temporary closure of several roadways. The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced that certain roads in Dubai, particularly in the Umm Suqeim and Jumeirah regions, would be closed from the early hours of the morning until 1:00 PM. The closures were orchestrated to accommodate the staging of the prestigious Dubai Marathon.
The Dubai Marathon, set to commence at 6:00 AM and conclude at 1:00 PM, prompted the temporary road closures. While specific details about the affected roads were not fully disclosed, it was confirmed that segments of Umm Suqeim Street, Jumeirah Beach Road, and Al Wasl Road would be impacted.
The RTA emphasized the significance of the 2024 edition of the Dubai Marathon, the world’s oldest international marathon in the Middle East. Runners from various parts of the globe, including emerging stars, debutants, and elite athletes, are expected to participate. The marathon route, showcased in a video shared by the RTA, spans iconic locations such as Jumeirah Beach Road, passing under the towering Burj Al Arab, and beginning and ending on Umm Suqeim Road near the Dubai Police Academy. The full marathon distance of 42.195 kilometers promises a challenging yet rewarding experience.
In addition to the professional marathon, the event features expert and amateur runners competing in the 10-kilometer category. A 4-kilometer fun run is also open to novices and hobbyists, adding a festive and inclusive element to the marathon.
The 2024 Dubai Marathon, sanctioned by the Dubai Sports Council, is anticipated to attract a substantial number of athletes globally. The generally flat course suggests that both elite and regular runners will complete the marathon in impressive times. The event not only showcases the sporting prowess of participants but also serves as a platform for fostering international camaraderie in the realm of long-distance running.
