UAE announces reduced working hours for Ramadan 2024
Ramzan in the UAE anticipated to commence on Tuesday, March 12 this year

Abu Dhabi:
On Monday, March 4, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) revealed initiatives to ensure a seamless observance of the forthcoming holy month of Ramzan 1445 AH/2024. The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) shared a significant decision to curtail working hours for public and private sector employees during this sacred period.
As per the MoHRE statement conveyed to X, private sector employees will experience a reduction of two working hours per day throughout the month of Ramzan. The ministry also underscored the adaptability of companies to introduce flexible or remote work schedules, aligning with daily working hours and the specific nature of their operations.
Simultaneously, the Federal Authority for Government Human Resources (FAHR) issued a circular outlining working hours for the public sector during Ramzan. According to the circular, the working day is set from 9 am to 2.30 pm from Monday to Thursday and from 9 am until 12 pm on Fridays. Ministries and federal departments are granted the autonomy to establish flexible or remote work schedules for their respective employees.
This proactive initiative by UAE authorities aims to accommodate the spiritual and communal aspects of Ramzan while acknowledging the practical needs of the workforce. The government’s commitment to promoting work-life balance and religious observance is evident in these measures.
Additionally, Ramzan is anticipated to commence on Tuesday, March 12, in the UAE this year. Confirmation of the exact start date will follow closer to the time, in adherence to the traditional moon-sighting practice. This holistic approach reflects the UAE’s dedication to fostering a supportive environment that respects religious traditions and meets the professional requirements of its diverse workforce.
