UAE Participates in Arab Group Meeting at IPU, Discusses 2025 Budget
Sharjah24 -: Saqr Ghobash, Speaker of the Federal National Council (FNC) and representatives of the UAE Parliamentary Division participated in the coordination meeting of the Arab Group at the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), IPU. UAE participation in the 149th IPU Assembly and Related Meetings and the 214th Session of the Governing Body in Geneva.
Speakers of the Gulf Legislative Assemblies and Arab Parliaments attended the meeting.
The representative of the Arab Group in the IPU Executive Committee, Dr. Ali Rashid Al Nuaimi presented a report on the results of the 294th session of the Executive Committee and the Finance Committee of the IPU.
He said the meeting approved the IPU budget for 2025 based on five new interlinked strategic objectives of the IPU for 2022 – 2026.
The 2025 budget will see an increase of 3 percent due to an increase in the annual contribution of Members of Parliament. This will increase manpower and group manufacturers by 3 percent for the 2023-2026 year, he said.
Extremism, including a $1 million contribution from the Federal National Council to underpin counter-terrorism plans, is expected to include a report on parliament’s contribution to the IPU budget.
