US Tariff Policy Presents New Trade Opportunities for India-UAE Ties: UAE MP
New Delhi [India], April 12:
UAE Parliamentarian Ali Rashid Al Nuaimi stated on Friday that recent tariff changes in the United States could open new avenues for strengthening India-UAE bilateral trade. Speaking to ANI in Dubai, he emphasized that global challenges often bring fresh opportunities—particularly for nations like India and the UAE with strong strategic ties.
“This situation presents a real opportunity for our two countries to deepen our partnership. In the UAE, we view challenges as openings for progress. India and the UAE should leverage the shifting global trade landscape to explore mutually beneficial solutions,” said Al Nuaimi, who serves as Chairman of the Defense Affairs, Interior, and Foreign Affairs Committee of the UAE Federal National Council.
Highlighting the strategic nature of India-UAE relations, he said the partnership extends beyond government agreements, thriving on active cooperation between businesses and people. “Many times, formal agreements aren’t even necessary—the connection is already strong. CEPA simply created new doors of opportunity for both nations and their citizens.”
Al Nuaimi noted that the UAE has signed the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) with over 27 countries. “Through CEPA, India gains access to these global markets via the UAE, amplifying its trade reach,” he added.
When asked whether the UAE might consider retaliatory tariffs on the US, Al Nuaimi firmly denied it. “That’s not how we deal with our allies. We believe in dialogue and constructive engagement. We are confident that diplomacy can resolve such issues.”
He also expressed optimism about the future of India-UAE relations, citing frequent diplomatic engagements as a sign of growing depth and dynamism in the partnership. “We see regular high-level meetings. The recent visit of the Abu Dhabi Crown Prince to India and my meeting with Speaker Om Birla in Tashkent reflect the momentum in our ties. There’s something happening almost every week between our countries,” he said.
