Newly Inaugurated Mosque in Abu Dhabi Honors Indonesian President Joko Widodo

In a gesture of friendship and diplomatic ties, a newly constructed mosque in Abu Dhabi has been officially opened to the public, named after and in honor of the Indonesian President, Joko Widodo.

The Mosque of President Joko Widodo, situated in the Abu Dhabi diplomatic area on the street bearing the Indonesian President’s name, was inaugurated in a ceremony led by Suhail Al Mazroei, the Minister of Energy and Infrastructure. The mosque’s construction commenced in 2021 and reached completion in October, boasting the capacity to accommodate up to 2,500 worshippers.

During the inauguration ceremony, Minister Al Mazroei planted a mango tree, signifying growth, unity, and the flourishing relationship between the UAE and Indonesia. The event included the Zuhr prayer led by Ust. Salman Alfarisi, the Indonesian Imam, attended by prominent figures, including envoys, businessmen, private sector leaders, and Indonesian expatriates.

Husin Bagis, the Indonesian Ambassador to the UAE, remarked on the significance of the mosque, stating, “This mosque has become a symbol of the strong brotherhood between the two Presidents after the existence of Sheikh Zayed’s Grand Mosque in Solo.” It’s worth noting that last year, President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan inaugurated the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in the Indonesian city of Solo, further emphasizing the bond between the two nations.

The opening of the Mosque of President Joko Widodo not only stands as a testament to the robust diplomatic relations between the UAE and Indonesia but also reflects the spirit of tolerance and unity fostered by the leadership of both countries.
