In a pivotal year marked by the resurgence of global travel, Indian tourists exhibited a renewed eagerness to explore the world, spreading across various destinations in substantial numbers.
Data sourced from Booking.com and Statista reveals that, in 2022, the United Arab Emirates stood out as the foremost choice for Indian tourists, attracting an impressive 5.89 million visitors. This information, reported by VisaGuide.World, underscores the magnetic appeal of the Middle East, with Saudi Arabia securing its position as the second most-visited destination, hosting approximately 2.42 million Indian tourists.
The United States claimed the third spot, with 1.68 million Indian visitors. Known for its diverse offerings, the U.S. continues to captivate Indian travelers, blending cultural richness with modern marvels.
The global wanderlust of Indian tourists is evident in Singapore securing the fourth position, welcoming close to a million visitors (0.99 million) in 2022. Thailand, celebrated for its pristine beaches and cultural heritage, closely followed as the fifth most preferred destination, with 0.93 million Indian visitors.
European charm holds its allure for Indian travelers, as the United Kingdom ranks sixth, drawing 0.92 million tourists. Historical landmarks, cultural festivals, and a diverse culinary scene make the UK a compelling choice. Additionally, the country’s status as a hub for Indian international students, as indicated by Home Office data, further cements its appeal.
Indian students, forming the leading nationality, received over a quarter of study visas (133,237) in the 2022/2023 academic year, marking a five percent increase from the previous year.
Further down the list, Qatar and Kuwait showcase their appeal, each hosting 0.88 million and 0.83 million Indian tourists, respectively. These destinations, blending tradition and modernity, have increasingly become sought-after travel spots for Indian globetrotters.
On a reciprocal note, the Bureau of Immigration in India reports that the United States topped the list as the primary country of origin for foreign tourist arrivals in 2022, recording 13.7 million arrivals. Bangladesh followed closely with 12.5 million visitors, and the United Kingdom secured the third position with 6.1 million arrivals.
The list of top ten countries of origin of tourists to India for 2022 concludes with Australia (3.6 million visitors), Canada (2.7 million), Sri Lanka (1.7 million), Nepal (1.35 million), Germany (1.2 million), Singapore (1.17 million), and Malaysia (1.16 million).
