UAE Ambassador to US Calls Gaza Approach “Difficult”

Yousef Al Otaiba highlights challenges and prospects for collaboration amid differing views

UAE Ambassador Discusses US Strategy in Gaza at World Government Summit

Yousef Al Otaiba, the UAE’s ambassador to the US, described the US strategy in Gaza as “difficult” on Wednesday.

At the World Government Summit in Dubai, he stated, “But in the end, we are all in the process of finding a solution, and we don’t know where it’s going to go yet.”

President Donald Trump has stated that, in contrast to decades of US policy toward the Israeli-Palestinian issue, the US will occupy the war-torn Gaza Strip and develop it economically after Palestinians are relocated elsewhere.

If the United States and the United Arab Emirates could reach an agreement on Gaza, the ambassador indicated his nation would try.

The two nations could still communicate and work together, according to Otaiba, even if they had different opinions on a particular matter.

“Like any relationship, sometimes our friends listen to us, sometimes they don’t, sometimes we agree on certain positions, sometimes we disagree, and we have always tried to find common ground,” she added. “We are assertive, we speak up, and we are very open and unapologetic about it.

“Just because we don’t like a certain thing doesn’t mean we don’t talk to each other,” she added.
