Sarawat project ships defend against air, surface, and subsurface threats

RIYADH: Saudi Arabia’s Chief of the General Staff Lt. Gen. Fayyad bin Hamed Al-Ruwaili marked a significant milestone on Tuesday with the launch of His Majesty’s Ship Onaiza, the fifth vessel in the esteemed Sarawat project, as reported by the Saudi Press Agency.

The Sarawat project represents a leap forward in Saudi Arabia’s maritime capabilities, featuring vessels equipped with cutting-edge combat systems tailored to address threats spanning air, surface, and subsurface domains, incorporating advanced electronic warfare capabilities.

This unveiling underscores Saudi Arabia’s commitment to strengthening its naval defenses and leveraging state-of-the-art technology. The Sarawat project vessels contribute to the enhancement of the Royal Saudi Navy’s operational capacity, ensuring a robust defense posture against evolving challenges and maintaining maritime security in the region.

Upon arrival at the King Faisal Naval Base in Jeddah, Lt. Gen. Al-Ruwaili was warmly received by Vice Admiral Fahad Bin Abdullah Al-Ghofaily, the esteemed Commander of the Royal Saudi Naval Forces.

Vice Admiral Al-Ghofaily, during the launch ceremony, emphasized the strategic importance of Onaiza, an Avante 2200 corvette, in fortifying regional maritime security and protecting the Kingdom’s critical assets. This vessel represents Saudi Arabia’s steadfast commitment to upholding stability and safeguarding vital maritime trade routes crucial for global commerce.
