UAE rains lead to Dubai flight cancellations and delays due to adverse weather
Morning flights remained unaffected, but over a dozen trips to the emirate had to be diverted

On Saturday, Dubai International Airport (DXB) experienced significant disruptions to its flight operations due to adverse weather conditions, leading to the rerouting of several inbound and outbound flights to a nearby airport. This information was communicated by a DXB official, highlighting the impact of the weather on the airport’s regular functioning.
In an official statement, DXB confirmed that normal operations had been affected at Dubai International (DXB) since the early hours of Saturday, March 9. A total of 13 inbound flights had to be rerouted to nearby airports as a result of the challenging weather conditions. The airport expressed its commitment to actively collaborate with service partners and airlines to minimize any inconvenience faced by their valued guests.
Emirates, a major airline operating at DXB, acknowledged the disruptions, with some of its flights experiencing delays and diversions. However, specific numbers were not provided due to the fluid nature of the weather conditions. The airline assured passengers that it was closely monitoring the situation and working diligently to transport passengers to their destinations at the earliest. Emirates emphasized its commitment to passenger and crew safety, ensuring it would not be compromised.
The DXB Flight Status website detailed schedule changes for various Emirates flights. For instance, EK flight 903 to Queen Alia International Airport in Jordan was rescheduled from 2.05 pm to 4 pm, and the EK031 flight to London Heathrow Airport faced delays.
Flydubai, another carrier based in Dubai, also experienced cancellations and delays in its flights due to adverse weather conditions. The spokesperson from flydubai underscored the airline’s commitment to passenger safety as its top priority. They expressed apologies for any inconvenience caused and mentioned ongoing efforts to minimize disruption to passengers’ travel schedules. Coordination with all relevant parties at the airport was highlighted in their efforts.
Etihad Airways flights departing from Abu Dhabi Zayed International Airport were reported to be operating normally. However, earlier advisories encouraged travelers departing from the UAE to arrive at the airport early, anticipating possible delays due to adverse weather conditions over the weekend.
According to the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM), rains of varying intensity were forecasted to continue in the UAE until Sunday, primarily concentrated over the northern and eastern regions of the country. The unstable weather was expected to gradually weaken, becoming confined to the eastern areas by Sunday evening. Monday was predicted to be dry, with a chance of fog formation in the morning. The NCM’s weather forecast provided context to the challenging conditions faced by the aviation sector during this period.
