UAE Condemns Deadly Mosque Attack in Niger, Calls for Global Action Against Terrorism
UAE Denounces Brutal Terrorist Attack in Niger
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has strongly condemned a horrific terrorist attack on a mosque in the southwestern Nigerien village of Kokorou, located in the Fambita quarter. At least forty-four people were killed and thirteen injured in the Ramadan incident. The government of Niger has proclaimed three days of national mourning in response to the tragedy.
UAE Reaffirms Anti-Terrorism Position
The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) expressed its strong opposition to all types of violence and terrorism in an official statement. The Ministry called the act a breach of human rights and international law and denounced it as a direct attack on security and stability.
“The UAE strongly condemns these heinous crimes and reaffirms its rejection of all acts of violence and terrorism aimed at destabilizing societies,” the statement read.
Details of the Attack
According to Niger’s Interior Ministry, heavily armed militants launched the assault on the mosque in broad daylight, targeting worshippers as they gathered for prayers. Witnesses described the attack as particularly brutal, with the assailants surrounding the mosque and opening fire indiscriminately. Reports indicate that the attackers also set fire to a nearby market and several homes before fleeing the scene.
UAE Expresses Solidarity with Niger
Extending its condolences, the UAE expressed deep sympathy for the government and people of Niger, as well as for the families of the victims. The Ministry also wished the attack’s victims a quick recovery.
Escalating Terrorism in West Africa
The terrible incident highlights the increasing threat of terrorism in the Sahel region of West Africa, where extremist groups affiliated with ISIL (ISIS) and al-Qaeda have gained ground. Since the Tuareg revolt in northern Mali in 2012, these tribes have expanded their influence beyond coastal nations like Ghana and Togo to include Niger and Burkina Faso.
UAE urges global collaboration
In order to fight terrorism and stop more deaths, the UAE has called on the international community to step up its coordinated efforts. The UAE, a nation dedicated to peace and security, keeps pushing for international cooperation in the fight against extremist threats and the advancement of regional stability.
