Sharjah Airport launches daily flights to the Maldives for UAE travelers

New Daily Flights Strengthen Sharjah’s International Network, Enhancing Travel and Economic Ties with the Maldives

Sharjah Airport and Air Arabia celebrated the launch of the first direct flight from Sharjah to the Maldives on 27 October 2024, marking a new milestone for Sharjah’s position in the international travel and tourism industry.

Along with representatives and directors from the Sharjah Airport Authority (SAA) and Air Arabia, Hasan Waheed, the UAE’s deputy consul to the Republic of the Maldives, attended the aircraft’s maiden ceremony. Air Arabia will use Airbus A320 aircraft to run daily flights between Sharjah Airport and Velana International Airport in the Maldives.

“Sharjah Airport continues to expand its presence on the international travel map and we are committed to adding new direct destinations to flights operating through the airport,” said Ali Salim Al Mitfa, Chairman of Sharjah Airports Authority.

Another significant milestone in Air Arabia’s growing destinations this year is the launch of direct flights from Sharjah to the Maldives, demonstrating our dedication to expanding our global network and providing customers with first-rate travel experiences and services.

“The Maldives is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world,” Al Midfa continued, urging Sharjah Airport to step up its efforts to improve services for customers flying directly to these islands.

In addition to strengthening economic and tourism ties between the UAE and the Maldives and creating new opportunities for commercial and economic collaboration between the two nations, he said, this new route demonstrates Sharjah Airport’s dedication to the region’s aviation sector.

“The first flight to the Maldives marks an exciting new chapter in our network expansion,” said Adel Al Ali, Group Chief Executive Officer of Air Arabia. We are thrilled to provide our clients with direct access to this idyllic tropical location.

With the inclusion of this new route, we will offer value-for-money air travel with additional incentives to travel to new global destinations.

Sharjah Airport has an ambitious plan to increase the airport’s 25 million passengers to Singapore’s Sri Lanka expansion through effective partnerships with strategic partners, introducing international airlines, and international airlines.

It focuses on improving services for airlines and passengers by adopting the latest technologies and continuously developing development programs to provide world-class services in the travel and aviation sectors to ensure a safe and seamless travel experience for all passengers.
