PM Modi highlights India's global influence, emphasizing key agreements with UAE

In Abu Dhabi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced plans to inaugurate a new Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) office in Dubai, solidifying India’s commitment to providing high-quality education in the UAE. Speaking at the ‘Ahlan Modi’ diaspora event in Abu Dhabi, PM Modi emphasized the significant strides made in the education sector, noting that “More than 1.5 lakh Indian students are studying in UAE schools.”

Furthermore, PM Modi highlighted the recent commencement of a master’s course at the IIT Delhi campus in Abu Dhabi and unveiled plans for the upcoming CBSE office in Dubai. These institutions, he emphasized, will play a pivotal role in offering premier education to the Indian community in the region.

Reflecting on the cultural bonds between India and the UAE, PM Modi praised the linguistic affinity and hailed the achievements of both nations as exemplary on the global stage. “In terms of community and culture, the achievements of Bharat and UAE serve as a model for the world to emulate. There is a close proximity in the languages of Bharat and UAE as well,” he added.

Recalling his inaugural visit to the UAE in 2015, PM Modi expressed warmth and kinship, particularly during his reception by the Crown Prince, now the President. “I vividly recall my first visit to the UAE in 2015, shortly after assuming the title of Prime Minister. It marked the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to the UAE in three decades. I remember being warmly received at the airport by the Crown Prince, who is now the President, along with his five brothers. During that visit, I felt an immediate sense of kinship as if I were visiting family,” he reminisced.

In addition to educational endeavors, PM Modi underscored India’s global recognition for mega infrastructure projects, vibrant tourism, and sports prowess. He noted, “India is being recognized as a vibrant tourism destination. India is being recognized as a big sports power. You will be proud to hear this. You know the digital revolution in India. Digital India is appreciated across the world.”

PM Modi also highlighted India’s growing global influence, positioning the nation as a ‘Vishwa Bandhu’ (friend of the world) and a reliable partner during times of crisis. “Today, the world is looking at India as a ‘Vishwa Bandhu.’ Wherever there is a crisis, the name of India comes among the first countries to reach there. Today’s strong India stands with its people at every step,” he affirmed.

The enthusiasm of the Indian diaspora was palpable, with organizers closing registrations due to overwhelming response, exceeding 65,000 attendees. PM Modi, upon his arrival in Abu Dhabi, engaged in bilateral discussions with UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to advance the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

Several memoranda of understanding, including an agreement on interlinking instant payment platforms – UPI and UAE’s AANI, were exchanged during PM Modi’s visit. He conveyed the sentiments of India’s 140 crore citizens, stating, “Bharat is proud of you,” to the diaspora in UAE.

The visit also witnessed interaction with the inaugural batch of students at the IIT Delhi-Abu Dhabi Campus, symbolizing a new chapter in bilateral collaboration. Envisioned by the leadership of both countries, the campus project aims to foster academic excellence and technological innovation.

In collaboration with the Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge (ADEK), the IIT Delhi campus in UAE endeavors to provide global students with quality higher education opportunities. The first academic program, a Masters in Energy Transition and Sustainability, commenced in January, setting the stage for future collaborations in research and innovation between India and the UAE.
