Oman Air suspends Pakistan and Bangladesh flights, reduces India frequency

Gulf carrier cancels Islamabad, Lahore, Colombo, Chittagong, adds Sialkot

Oman’s national carrier, Oman Air, has undertaken strategic revisions to its destinations and flight frequencies targeting India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka. The initiative is part of a comprehensive plan aimed at improving the airline’s financial performance.

In this adjustment, Oman Air has opted to cancel operations to key cities including Islamabad, Lahore, Colombo, and Chittagong. However, it introduces Sialkot in Pakistan to its network, reflecting a nuanced approach to its route map.

On the Indian front, the airline will not only reduce frequencies to certain markets but also augment capacity to two existing destinations, Lucknow and Thiruvananthapuram. This move aligns with the carrier’s dynamic strategy to cater to evolving market demands.

SalamAir, another Omani airline, had earlier announced the resumption of flights to five pivotal Indian cities in November 2023. This resumption, after a pause attributed to flight rights limitations, indicated a concerted effort to reconnect with vital Indian markets.

Air routes linking Gulf countries and the Indian Subcontinent witness heightened activity due to their geographical proximity and a substantial South Asian diaspora employed in the Gulf. The adjustments in flight operations by Oman Air underscore its commitment to align with market dynamics and capitalize on emerging opportunities.

Furthermore, Oman Air is set to operate three destinations on a seasonal basis, with Trabzon featuring during the summer season, and Zurich and Malé during the winter. This seasonal approach reflects a strategic response to the variable demand for passenger traffic during different times of the year.

The airline has also implemented measures to optimize its schedule, particularly during the upcoming summer season. The revisions in flight times aim to better serve the Omani market, enhance convenience for direct passengers, and maximize connection windows.

Oman Air emphasizes its commitment to a strategic approach that adapts to evolving market dynamics and seizes opportunities to contribute positively to the country’s economy and social objectives. This flexible strategy positions the airline to navigate changes effectively while ensuring the utmost benefit for both passengers and the nation it serves.
