Indian Expat in Dubai Wins ₹2.32 Crore UAE Lottery by Skipping Daily Tea
Ananth Perumalsamy, a 33-year-old Indian accountant living in Dubai, has won a whopping ₹2.32 crore (Dh 1 million) in the UAE Lottery—all thanks to a small but consistent saving habit. Ananth, a native of Tamil Nadu, has been employed as an accountant since relocating to Dubai in 2017.
Ananth was motivated to try his luck after hearing about the recently launched UAE Lottery from a coworker in November. However, he joined forces with 11 buddies, all of whom make modest salaries, rather than going it alone. To make the lottery affordable, the group created a simple plan: contribute Dh 8 each every two weeks to jointly buy two tickets priced at Dh 50 each.
“I gave up having tea every day to save for my ticket share,” Ananth told Khaleej Times. He compared the cost to skipping about 12 to 16 cups of tea per month—proving how even small savings can lead to big rewards.
Since the launch of the lottery, the group has participated in every draw. Then came the big moment—Ananth was checking the lottery app at 9 p.m. after a live draw and couldn’t believe his eyes when he saw their ticket number among the winners. The team had struck gold.
The prize money will be equally divided among the 12 members of the group, with each receiving an estimated ₹19 to ₹23 lakh. For Ananth and his friends, the win is not just a lucky break—it’s the reward for smart teamwork and a little daily sacrifice.
