India-UAE Partnership Strengthens Amid Global Transformation, Says EAM Jaishankar

The world is changing dramatically, bringing with it new opportunities as well as challenges. External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar emphasized during his speech at the 75th Republic Day celebrations in Abu Dhabi that these occasions put the ties between the UAE and India to the test, but that they are only growing closer.

Dr. Jaishankar drew attention to the many parallels between the two countries’ perspectives on and reactions to the shifting global landscape. He said, “When we look at the world today, the alignment between India and the UAE is undeniable,” and he expressed hope for their expanding partnership on the international scene.

Several high-ranking UAE officials attended the event, which was hosted by the Indian Embassy in Abu Dhabi. These officials included UAE Minister of Tolerance Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan and Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The Chairman of the Emirates Drug Establishment and Minister of State for Foreign Trade, Dr. Thani Bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, was among the other dignitaries.

Dr. Jaishankar highlighted that the India-UAE relationship has flourished under the leadership of both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. As examples of the expanding strategic collaboration, he cited important accords and programs like the Comprehensive Economic collaboration Agreement (CEPA), local currency trading systems, and the BAPS Hindu Mandir in Abu Dhabi.

Strong interpersonal ties are at the core of this partnership. Dr Jaishankar noted the 4.5 million Indian visitors to the UAE every year, and the current number of Indians is over 4 million. He underlined that these figures underscore the long-standing respect that the two countries have for each other and reaffirm India’s commitment to improving the quality of life of their nationals living abroad.

Dr. Jaishankar will be the keynote speaker at the opening session of the Raisina Middle East conference in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday, in addition to his three-day tour, emphasizing the importance of India-UAE ties with respect to regional and global concerns.

This visit highlights the importance of the two nations’ strategic partnership, especially as they both seek to navigate a period of global transition and expand their influence on the international scene.
