Emirates-India ties strengthen with defence deals, IIM Dubai campus, and new healthcare projects

India, UAE Deepen Strategic Ties with Defence, Education, and Infrastructure Agreements
India and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have strengthened their strategic alliance with a number of important agreements and projects in the areas of infrastructure, healthcare, education, and defense. These events transpired during the official visit to India by UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Dubai Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, who met at high levels with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.
Both nations reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing defence ties, with a focus on joint military training, co-production and co-development of defence equipment, and advanced technology collaboration. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh emphasized India’s eagerness to work closely with the UAE on innovation-driven projects that strengthen regional peace and security.
In a major educational collaboration, the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIM-A) will launch its MBA program in Dubai starting this September. Alongside this, the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT) will establish an international campus at the India Pavilion in Expo City Dubai, promoting higher education opportunities for students in the region.
A 100-bed UAE-India Friendship Hospital in Dubai has also been approved by the UAE. With 4.3 million Indians living in the United Arab Emirates and around 9 million in the Gulf, this medical facility is intended to serve the Indian diaspora. Furthermore, work on the Bharat Mart project in Dubai, which is intended to assist Indian exporters, is about to start, improving trade infrastructure even more.
The UAE and India have also inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the development of ship repair clusters in Vadinar, Gujarat, and Kochi, Kerala, between Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) and Drydocks World, a DP World firm. India’s industrial and maritime might should increase as a result of this partnership.
The vibrant economic ties between the two countries are reflected in a Ministry of External Affairs statement, which said that bilateral trade is expected to cross $97 billion as a result of these strategic initiatives. Prime Minister Modi described the visit as a sign of “generational continuity” in the historically strong ties between the UAE and India. He acknowledged Dubai’s key contribution to the development of an all-inclusive strategic partnership based on trust and a shared vision for the future.
Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said Dubai is essential for expanding India-UAE cooperation in various sectors, including trade, technology, space, security and connectivity. After his engagements in Delhi, Sheikh Hamdan is expected to travel to Mumbai, where he will participate in a business roundtable with prominent Indian and Emirati companies.
The visit not only demonstrates the depth of India-UAE relations, but also demonstrates a forward-thinking goal to strengthen the alliance through cooperative efforts in key sectors and people-centric development.
