IIT Madras to Launch Flagship Global Research Centre in Dubai by 2025
Dubai: The Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, plans to open its first international flagship center for research, innovation, and entrepreneurship here in early 2025, according to an announcement made on Friday. The IITM Global Dubai Center specializes in cutting-edge sectors such as artificial intelligence (AI), data science, robotics, and sustainable energy, and will serve as a fresh link to India’s entrepreneurial environment.
An agreement between the Indian Institute of Technology, Chennai (IITM) and the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism (DET) has enabled the company’s intentions to open a facility in Dubai.
It was signed by Hadi Badri, CEO of Dubai Economic Development Corporation (DEDC) and Professor Raghunathan Rengaswamy, Dean of Global Engagement, IITM, at the 44th edition of GITEX Global 2024.
The first of its kind, established under IITM’s new entity ‘IITM Global’, will drive research, innovation, IP licensing and technology transfer in Dubai’s key priority areas such as AI, data science, robotics and sustainable energy technologies.
It will be marketed as part of IITM Global, and will support international deep technology development stage start-ups.
“This collaboration is fully aligned with our aim to expand IIT Madras’ global footprint and bring our expertise in research, innovation and entrepreneurship to Dubai’s dynamic ecosystem,” said Professor Rengaswamy.
The partnership between DET and IIT Madras is poised to further strengthen the strong economic and social ties between Dubai and India.
“The launch of the IITM flagship center in Dubai and our broader strategic partnership with the institute represents a key milestone in positioning Dubai as a global leader in research, innovation and entrepreneurship,” said Badri.
“Through our partnership, we aim to increase the level of research and development conducted in Dubai, attract the best global talent and boost the growth of deep tech startups,” Badri said.
