Etihad Water and Electricity Teams Up with UAE Ministry for Distributed Solar Project
New Initiative Aims to Boost UAE’s Net-Zero Goals and Enhance Sustainability Through Rooftop PV Systems

Etihad Water and UAE Ministry Launch Distributed Solar System Project in Northern Emirates
Etihad Water and Electricity has partnered with the UAE Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure (MoEI) to launch a Distributed Solar System (DSS) project in the Northern Emirates. This recently announced strategic initiative represents a significant step forward in advancing the UAE’s net-zero ambitions and underlines the company’s commitment to sustainability.
The DSS project, which began last year with a detailed feasibility study, includes the installation of rooftop photovoltaic (PV) systems. The collaboration aims to integrate these systems into the grid and benefit residential, industrial (excluding feed-in tariffs) and agricultural customers. Although customers may not directly use the energy generated by their solar panels, they will enjoy reduced energy bills as a result of their contribution to the energy grid.
This partnership has led to the development of new regulations and technical guidelines for rooftop PV installations to ensure they meet strict safety, technical and financial standards. This effort will see Etihad Water and Power diversify its operations, potentially stimulating the United Arab Emirates to support a wider range of objectives.
By implementing DSS the UAE will give its carbon adoption reduction clients more control over the management they use. The initiative is to create awareness about the benefits of solar energy.
Etihad Water and Electricity is progressing with this effort and continuously updating stakeholders on its vision for distributed solar power in the Northern Emirates.
