UAE Rulers Pardon Nearly 3,000 Prisoners Ahead of Eid Al Adha 2024
Eid Al Adha 2024 in the UAE is marked by a significant act of compassion as the Rulers of the Emirates have ordered the release of nearly 3,000 prisoners. This gesture, driven by the prisoners’ demonstrated good conduct and behavior during their sentences, underscores the spirit of mercy and forgiveness associated with the holy occasion.
President Sheikh Mohamed issued orders for the release of 1,138 prisoners who had been serving sentences in various cases. In addition to granting their freedom, the President ensured that any outstanding fines owed by these individuals were settled, offering them a fresh start upon their release.
Similarly, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, exercised his authority to pardon 686 inmates from correctional facilities. This initiative, aimed at promoting rehabilitation and reintegration, reflects Dubai’s commitment to justice and social welfare.
Counselor Issam Issa Al Humaidan, Attorney General of Dubai, swiftly coordinated with the Dubai Police General Command to implement the release orders, ensuring a smooth transition for the pardoned individuals back into society.
In Ras Al Khaimah, Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler, issued directives for the release of 481 inmates, emphasizing the emirate’s dedication to upholding humanitarian values and supporting those who have demonstrated remorse and rehabilitation.
Similarly, in Ajman, Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, a Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler, ordered the release of 223 inmates from correctional and penal facilities under the jurisdiction of the Ajman Police General Headquarters. This decision aims to give these individuals a chance to rebuild their lives and contribute positively to their families and communities.
Across the emirate of Sharjah, Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Muhammad Al-Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, exercised his authority to grant clemency to 352 inmates from punitive and correctional institutions. This act of forgiveness not only acknowledges the prisoners’ efforts towards rehabilitation but also encourages them to reintegrate into society as productive members.
Further east in Fujairah, Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler, extended the spirit of mercy by ordering the release of 94 prisoners from various nationalities. This decision underscores Fujairah’s commitment to upholding justice and compassion during this auspicious time.
The tradition of pardoning prisoners during significant Islamic occasions in the UAE reflects the leadership’s commitment to justice, compassion, and the principles of Islam. It provides an opportunity for those who have shown genuine remorse and rehabilitation to reintegrate into society and lead productive lives.
Aligned with the Islamic calendar, the UAE government announced paid holidays for public and private sector employees from Saturday, June 15, until Tuesday, June 18, to observe Arafah Day and Eid Al Adha. Arafah Day, the holiest day in Islam observed on Dhul Hijjah 9, falls on June 15, followed by the three-day Eid Al Adha holiday (Dhul Hijjah 10 to 12) from June 16 to 18, allowing for a four-day break to celebrate this joyous occasion with family and loved ones.
