Egypt Condemns Attack on UAE Ambassador’s Residence in Khartoum
Cairo (Egypt), October 1: The Arab Republic of Egypt has condemned the shelling of the UAE ambassador’s residence in the Sudanese capital Khartoum.
It asserted that the move violates international law and the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, which guarantees the security and inviolability of diplomatic premises at all times.
Egypt emphasized the need to uphold the principles of international humanitarian law and guarantee the safety of civilians as well as the security of diplomatic facilities in a statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday evening.
A day earlier, the UAE strongly denounced the attack by Sudanese military aircraft targeting the residence of the UAE Ambassador in Khartoum, which resulted in serious damage to the structure
. The UAE demanded that the army be held fully responsible for this cowardly act.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) confirmed in a statement that it will submit a letter to the League of Arab States, the African Union and the United Nations against this attack by the Sudan Armed Forces, as it represents a flagrant violation by the Sudan Armed Forces. The ministry also emphasized the importance of protecting diplomatic buildings and residences of consular staff in accordance with treaties and customs governing diplomatic relations.
The ministry also expressed its strong condemnation of these criminal acts aimed at destabilizing security and stability in violation of international law and permanently rejects all forms of violence and terrorism.
