Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Attends Funeral of Pope Francis in Vatican
His Highness Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, attended the funeral of Pope Francis, representing UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
Accompanied by Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence, along with other senior officials, Sheikh Khaled participated in the solemn ceremony, which took place in Saint Peter’s Square at the Vatican and concluded with burial rites at the Papal Basilica of Saint Mary Major in Rome. Many world leaders and dignitaries attended the ceremony.
During his visit, Sheikh Khaled expressed the UAE’s profound condolences to Vatican officials and the global Catholic community, praising Pope Francis as a symbol of peace, coexistence, and interfaith dialogue.
Pope Francis leaves a significant legacy, highlighted by his historic 2019 visit to the UAE and signing of the Human Fraternity Document, which prompted the United Nations to establish February 4 as International Day of Human Fraternity.
