Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Centre Extends Research Grant Deadline to March 20 to Encourage More Participation

Abu Dhabi, 5th March 2025 – The Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Centre (ALC) has extended the application deadline for the fifth cycle of its Research Grants Programme until 20th March 2025. Researchers now have more time to apply for the initiative, which encourages scholarly study in a number of Arabic-related subjects.

AED 600,000 is the entire prize pool available through the Research Grants Program, which funds studies in fields such Arabic lexicography, academic curricula, literature and criticism, teaching Arabic to non-Arabic speakers, applied and computational linguistics, and manuscript editing.
Since its inception, the initiative has awarded 28 grants to scholars dedicated to advancing the Arabic language.

Encouraging Quality Research in Arabic Studies

By extending the deadline, the ALC aims to support a greater number of Emirati and Arab researchers in their efforts to produce high-quality academic work that enhances the Arabic language’s role in science, culture, and creativity.The program’s goals are to promote linguistic innovation, unique research, and the advancement of Arabic as a world language of knowledge.

Candidates must follow strict academic guidelines and submit research ideas in Arabic that are at least 50,000 words long. The study needs to be unique, sound in terms of methodology, and unpublished elsewhere. For all financed research in its six supported categories, the ALC maintains all publishing rights in print and digital media.

Process of Assessment and Selection

Intellectual value, research impact, compatibility with ALC’s strategic goals, and the credentials of the principal researcher and collaborators are all taken into consideration when evaluating submitted proposals. Studies that make a substantial contribution to the advancement of Arabic language studies are given priority during the selection process.

The program received 270 applications from 31 countries during the most recent cycle, indicating strong international interest. The ALC anticipates an even larger pool of submissions as a result of the extended deadline, which will enhance the field of Arabic literary and linguistic studies.
