UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan Welcomes Delegation from McGill University, Canada

Abu Dhabi: His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, graciously received a distinguished delegation from Canada’s esteemed McGill University on Tuesday. The meeting, held at Qasr Al Bahr in Abu Dhabi, marked a significant moment of collaboration and mutual exchange between the UAE and one of Canada’s premier educational institutions.

During the gathering, President Sheikh Mohamed warmly welcomed the delegation, which comprised several officials representing McGill University. In his address, Sheikh Mohamed underscored the UAE’s steadfast commitment to forging partnerships with leading educational establishments and universities worldwide. Emphasizing the importance of nurturing high-quality national talent, particularly in the domains of science and technology, Sheikh Mohamed reiterated the nation’s dedication to investing in qualified youth who embody creativity and innovation.

Central to the UAE’s developmental vision is the belief that its youth represent the country’s greatest resource, and as such, must be equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to drive progress and innovation. Sheikh Mohamed highlighted the pivotal role of partnerships in this endeavor, recognizing them as essential vehicles for fostering excellence and empowering the nation’s youth to realize their full potential.

In response, the delegation expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to meet with President Sheikh Mohamed, acknowledging the UAE’s unwavering commitment to advancing the fields of science and technology. They lauded the nation’s forward-looking vision, which places a strong emphasis on sustainable development and the cultivation of a knowledge-based economy.

Notably, in 2015, the Crown Prince Court in Abu Dhabi, in collaboration with McGill University, launched the McGill-UAE Fellowships in science and engineering. This esteemed program aims to support Emirati scholars pursuing education in the faculties of science and engineering at McGill University, with a focus on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) disciplines. The fellowship provides outstanding Master’s and PhD students with invaluable training opportunities within distinguished scientific and engineering companies, as well as immersive field visits both within and outside of Canada under the university’s guidance.

The Majlis was attended by esteemed dignitaries, including Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister, and Chairman of the Presidential Court, among others. Their presence underscored the significance of the occasion and the UAE’s unwavering commitment to fostering collaboration and excellence across all sectors.
