UAE announces the first aid ship’s arrival in Gaza via a maritime corridor from Cyprus

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has taken a significant step forward in addressing the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip with the recent announcement of the delivery of the first aid shipment. Revealing that a vessel laden with 200 tonnes of essential food and relief supplies has reached Gaza, the UAE showcases its commitment to aiding those in need. This delivery was made possible through a collaborative effort, utilizing a maritime corridor launched from Larnaca Port in Cyprus, in partnership with the World Central Kitchen (WCK) and the Republic of Cyprus.

In an official statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA), the UAE underscores its unwavering dedication to mobilizing resources within the “Amalthea” maritime corridor. This commitment aims to ensure the efficient delivery of relief aid to the northern Gaza Strip. The Ministry extends its gratitude to the leadership of Cyprus, the World Central Kitchen, and other international partners whose crucial contributions have fortified the humanitarian response for the civilians in this region.

Furthermore, the Ministry emphasizes the urgent need for a collective international approach to address the escalating humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Recognizing the severity of the situation, it stresses the importance of immediate action to mitigate harm to innocent civilians, advocating for urgent, safe, unimpeded, and sustainable aid delivery.

The UAE’s commitment to humanitarian relief extends beyond this initial shipment. The Ministry reaffirms that the maritime corridor initiative represents a broader, sustained effort to enhance the flow of humanitarian aid and commercial goods through various channels.

In addition to the delivery of immediate relief supplies, the UAE has demonstrated its long-term dedication to the Palestinian people by delivering a substantial 21,000 tonnes of urgent supplies, including crucial provisions such as food, water, and medical items. This extensive aid effort encompasses a multi-faceted approach, including 213 flights, 8 airdrops, 946 truck deliveries, and two ships.

Moreover, the UAE has undertaken sustainable relief projects and provided vital medical care to civilians in Gaza. Initiatives such as the establishment of a field hospital in the southern Gaza Strip and a floating hospital anchored in Egypt’s Al-Arish Port reflect the comprehensive nature of the UAE’s commitment to addressing the ongoing humanitarian challenges in the region.
