UAE leaders grant amnesty to 2,592 prisoners ahead of Ramzan

Inmates of different nationalities chosen for pardon based on good conduct and behavior

Abu Dhabi: In a compassionate move ahead of the holy month of Ramzan 1445 AH/2024, UAE leaders have extended clemency (amnesty) to 2,592 prisoners, offering them a renewed chance at life. This humanitarian gesture underscores the commitment to rehabilitation within correctional and penal institutions in the UAE.

On Thursday, March 7, UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan directed the release of 735 prisoners, covering all fines and penalties imposed on those sentenced for various offenses, as reported by the Emirates News Agency (WAM).

Continuing this benevolent initiative, on Friday, March 8, Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ajman, ordered the release of 314 prisoners from punitive and correctional institutions in Ajman. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and the Ruler of Dubai, also contributed to the initiative by directing the release of 691 prisoners of diverse nationalities.

Furthermore, Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, the Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, demonstrated his commitment to this compassionate cause by ordering the release of 484 prisoners from punitive and correctional institutions. Similarly, Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, contributed to the efforts by ordering the amnesty of 368 prisoners.

This comprehensive initiative not only signifies a gesture of forgiveness but also aims to alleviate the burdens on those who have served their sentences, offering them a chance to reintegrate into society. The commitment of UAE leaders to the well-being and rehabilitation of their citizens demonstrates a profound dedication to justice and mercy.
