UAE, India to Enhance Collaboration in Renewable Energy, Food Processing, and Healthcare

Strategic MoUs Forge Stronger UAE-India Ties in Renewable Energy, Food Processing, and Healthcare

The UAE Ministry of Investment has formalized its commitment to bolstering bilateral cooperation with India through the signing of three Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs). These frameworks outline the expansion of collaboration in the renewable energy, food processing, and healthcare sectors. The agreements, inked by respective Indian ministries, underscore the UAE’s dedication to supporting India’s flourishing economy, anticipated to grow by 7.3 percent in the current fiscal year.

The economic engagement between the UAE and India, fortified by the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), has witnessed substantial growth. Bilateral trade between April 2022 and March 2023 amounted to US$ 84.5 billion and is projected to reach US$ 100 billion by 2027. The UAE, as the seventh-largest investor in India, is expected to contribute an estimated US$ 18 billion in 2023.

The three MoUs, established between the Ministry of Investment of the UAE and its Indian counterparts, focus on:

  1. Renewable Energy: The MoU in the renewable energy sector aims to facilitate investment cooperation for projects in India, with a potential capacity of up to 60 gigawatts. This aligns with India’s commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2070 and deriving 50 percent of its electricity from renewable sources by 2030.
  2. Food Processing: The agreement on food park development emphasizes collaboration in leveraging advanced agritech, clean tech, and renewable energy solutions. India’s food processing sector, recognized as a ‘sunrise sector,’ plays a crucial role in the country’s economic growth, with the Mega Food Park Scheme fostering modern infrastructure facilities.
  3. Healthcare: The MoU on innovative healthcare projects focuses on precision health, emphasizing personalized healthcare based on an individual’s genetic, genomic, or biological composition. The development of a genomic center of excellence is under consideration as part of this collaboration.

These strategic partnerships underscore the commitment to fostering comprehensive ties between the UAE and India, contributing to economic growth, technological advancement, and sustainable development. The agreements also highlight the importance of public and private collaboration, knowledge exchange, and the implementation of incentives to drive impactful initiatives in these key sectors.
